Program Website: Economics – Hiram College
Introduction
Economics is a social science that analyzes the causes and consequences of human decision making within the context of larger societal systems. Economics has increasingly become vital in understanding the operations of many aspects of daily life—from business and health care to the environment and sports—that the discipline is a highly valued and versatile minor that pairs well with almost every major. The applicability of economics to inform and guide strategic decision making has propelled Hiram’s economics alumni to reach incredible heights as leaders in business, finance, law, government, and other important areas. To those ends, the economics minor at Hiram introduces students to the critical big-picture theories and concepts at the heart of the discipline and provides opportunities to learn and apply the critical tools of economists (theory, history, data analytics, and public policy) to arm students with the insight to develop their strategic decision making skills and to take future leadership roles within their respective fields.
